🌳 Governance Proposal & Discussion Templates

This forum supports two kinds of posts: formal proposals seeking DAO approval, and lighter discussions or polls to gauge community sentiment before an idea matures into a proposal.

Use the templates provided here when drafting a new proposal or discussion topic on the Governance Forum. See our forum guidelines for posting conduct.

Copy the structure below into a new topic and replace the sections with your content. Not every section will apply to every proposal — if a section isn’t relevant, you may omit it, but please note why in your post.

Governance Proposal Template

Use this when you’re ready to put forward something for DAO approval. Filling out each section thoroughly helps the community evaluate your idea and speeds up the path to a formal vote.

Suggested Title Format:

[Concise, Descriptive Title of Discussion]

Examples:

  • “Reducing tETH Redemption Fees”
  • “Integrating Morpho as a tETH MEY Venue”

Overview

In 2–4 sentences, state what the proposal seeks DAO approval to do. If the proposal involves multiple related actions, list them as bullets.

Example: “This proposal seeks DAO approval to [action]. The objective is to [goal], while [any constraint or safeguard being preserved].”

Background

Provide the context needed to understand the proposal. What is the current state of the relevant system, product, or parameter? Reference prior governance decisions where relevant.

Motivation

Explain why this change is needed now. What problem does it solve, or what opportunity does it create? List expected benefits as bullets where possible. Avoid unsourced superlatives — back claims with data where available.

Specification

State precisely what will happen if approved. Use the format:

“If approved, this proposal will:”

  • [Action 1]
  • [Action 2]
  • [Action 3]

Include exact figures, wallet addresses, contract addresses, or parameter values wherever funds, contracts, or settings are involved. Note any DAO authority retained to revise these parameters in the future.

Risk Considerations (if applicable)

If your proposal introduces new smart contract risk, third-party dependencies, or financial exposure, outline:

  • The specific risks introduced
  • Mitigations in place to manage them

Implementation Plan

List the steps required to execute the proposal if approved, in sequential order. State clearly which team or body would be responsible for execution.

Next Steps

Standard closing for most proposals:

  • Gather community feedback on the Governance Forum
  • Escalate the proposal to Snapshot for formal voting, if applicable
  • [Specific action] upon approval

Community Discussion Template

Use this for sentiment-gathering, open questions, or community polls — anything that isn’t yet a formal proposal. This is a lighter format meant to spark conversation before an idea matures.

Suggested Title Format:

[Clear question or topic]

Examples:

  • “Expanding tAssets to a New Chain”
  • “Utilizing the Treehouse Ethereum Staking Rate (TESR) for Fixed Rate Primitives”

Topic

What are you asking the community? State it as a clear, specific question or theme rather than a vague prompt — this helps people decide quickly whether they have something to contribute.

Context

1–3 sentences of background — why is this worth discussing now? What prompted you to raise this? If relevant, reference any related TIPs, product updates, or prior forum threads so people aren’t starting from zero.

Question

Pose an open question for discussion, or use the forum’s built-in poll tool if you’re offering specific options to vote on. If using a poll, keep options clear and mutually exclusive, and avoid leading or biased phrasing that nudges toward one answer.

Why this matters

A sentence or two on why community input now could shape a future proposal. Help people understand what’s at stake or what could change as a result of this discussion.

Best Practices for Proposal Writing

  • Every factual claim should be sourceable. If you’re estimating or projecting a figure, say so explicitly.
  • Be precise with numbers — avoid vague language like “significant” or “substantial” where a specific figure is available.
  • Keep sentences short and direct. Clarity helps the DAO evaluate your idea faster.

What Happens Next

Once your draft is ready, post it as a new topic in the appropriate category.

After at least 24 hours of community discussion, a DAO Administrator may escalate it to Snapshot for a formal vote.

Every proposal and discussion helps the forest grow stronger. We’re glad to have you in it. :deciduous_tree:
